Five Minute Friday: Beautiful

On Fridays I link up with Lisa-Jo Baker. She gives her readers a prompt and we write without trepidation. Below are her instructions:
Five Minute Friday

1. Write for 5 minutes flat with no editing, tweaking or self critiquing.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in {you can grab the button code in my blog’s footer}.
3. Go and tell the person who linked up before you what their words meant to you. Every writer longs to feel heard.
OK, are you ready? Give us your best five minutes for the prompt:

The Prompt: Beautiful

I use this word to describe my children, my girlfriends, the purple and orange sunset, models who walk the runways, God's amazing grace, babies with ringlets, and so much more.

My husband does a little sweet banter with me most days and I almost always fall for it. Guess what?,  he says. What?, I sayYou are beautiful!

My usual response is a slight smile with my eyes rolling. I love when he does this with me but I usually don't believe him.

Somewhere along the way I doubted my beauty. I saw the battle scars on the inside, the freckles on my cheeks, the higher number on the scale, and decided I wasn't worthy of that word.

My Creator, my husband, my children, and my friends see me much differently than how I see myself.

God heals our wounds and can change the way we view life if we let Him.

So today I choose to embrace the word beautiful and let it wash over my insecurities, the impossible standards I set for myself, and the reflection in the mirror.

Stop.

Please hop on over to Lisa-Jo's blog and read how others see beautiful today!
